The Spring Equinox is when the length of day and night are equal as we transition from winter to spring. Associated with the Wood element in Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is to do with change and expansion, signifying transformation and hope. The emotion connected to the Wood element is anger.

Using a yin yoga practice, we will access the deep layers of the body by moving through a sequence of postures and staying in each pose anywhere between 3-5 minutes. These long stretches facilitate the release of tension and unblock stagnant energy in the connective tissue and ligaments and help to restore balance to the energy or meridian channels of the body.

We will target the Liver and Gall Bladder meridian lines to release physical and emotional tension and unblock stagnant energy to re-balance the emotions of anger and frustration. The Liver guides our Qi or life force, so we don’t become restless; the Gall Bladder helps us make wise decisions. To be in balance we must be able to pause, overcome any anger and frustration and make wise choices.

An immersive gong sound bath for the duration of the workshop will help you reach deeper levels of relaxation and surrender in the postures. Vibrating with the water in your body, including in your connective tissues, it will remove anything that’s not of the highest vibration, thereby allowing you to release what may not serve you. Experiencing sounds help us release of chemicals like dopamine and oxytocin, a natural painkiller and hormone which allows us build trust, improves our mood and aids creativity and healing.

By moving slowly, staying in each pose for a long time and placing attention on our breath, the mind also slows down and comes closer to stillness and clarity.

Kanwal / Yogabliss

Kanwal’s teaching style is characterized by warmth, intuition and clear communication. Her classes are engaging and inclusive, with an emphasis on deep stretches, slow flows and mindful breathing. She encourages students to go beyond the physical postures and to delve into the transformative philosophy that underlies yoga. Kanwal was drawn to yoga in her 20s as a way of keeping a center of gravity whilst doing a robust job working on women’s rights and social justice and eventually trained with Yoghaven in 2010 (hot, vinyasa) and more recently with Norman Blair (yin). Kanwal has had a regular meditation and qi gong practice since 2017. She currently teaches hatha and yin yoga styles in South London.
