MAUDSLEY LEARNING AT WORK

MAUDSLEY LEARNING AT WORK

‘The gender divide – mental health in the workplace’

Friday 18th November from 8:45am until 12:00pm
ORTUS learning and events centre, London

The recent report published by BITC on Mental Health in the Workplace, highlighted that in general men are less confident than women in talking about mental health in the workplace – as employees they are less likely to discuss issues with their manager and as line managers they are less enthusiastic about training in mental health.

As part of Men’s Health Awareness Month, Maudsley Learning at Work will explore the reasons surrounding this and the ways in which employers can support workplace practices that promote openness around mental health for all. With expert insights and a format that enables peer to peer discussions we will discuss the role of the line manager in relation to supporting mental in the workplace and how getting this right will have a positive impact on business goals as well as individual mental health and team performance. This briefing will be followed by a taster session of our Workplace Mental Health Training

Agenda
8:45 – 9:30 Introductory Briefing with coffee/tea & working breakfast
8:45 – 9:15 Introduction and panel discussion
9:15 – 9:30 Audience Q&A
9:30 – 10:00 Break and Networking

Link Age Southwark

Link Age Southwark

Link Age Southwark is a vibrant local charity providing friendly volunteer support to over 500 isolated, older people in Southwark.

Could you volunteer in your local area to make an older person’s day? Just an hour of your time can make a big difference to a lonely or isolated older person.

You can help out by:

  • Visiting an older person in their home for a chat
  • Helping to run one of our activity groups
  • Giving an older person a lift to an activity group or appointment
  • Helping an older person with light gardening or household odd jobs

You could help an older person like May, 98, who attends our volunteer-led social groups. She says, “I was bored and lonely before I learned of Link Age Southwark. I’m very grateful to their volunteers for bringing joy to my life.

We are working to make Southwark a more inclusive and age-friendly borough and would love volunteers in Camberwell to be part of this. Volunteering with us is very rewarding – you will enjoy new experiences, meet new people in your local community and have the satisfaction of supporting older people to live happy, fulfilled lives.

To volunteer, please email info@linkagesouthwark.org or call 020 8299 2623.

Please see our website http://linkagesouthwark.org/ for more information.

Five ways to re-vamp an shirt!

Five ways to re-vamp an shirt!

Rather than wasting your money in the shops, look no further than the back of your wardrobe for that old shirt. Bring it along to our creative workshop to discover inspiring ways to create a fresh look, or a lovely gift from the things you already have.

The ‘Upcycling’ workshop is being held on Monday 31 Oct from 12.30 to 4.30 pm at the Southwark Integrated Waste Management Facility, hosted by Veolia Southwark and Love Your Clothes, as part of the Recycle for London campaign. The workshop will follow an introductory site tour of the plant.

Learn from the experts, share sewing, repair, and upcycling skills creating something new from that unloved old shirt. Getting creative with your clothes isn’t just about saving cash: it can give you a fabulous style or unique gift that nobody else can match.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Spaces are limited so please RSVP to jeyda.keski@veolia.com by Friday 28 October 2016.

Don’t forget to bring with you a shirt you’d like to upcycle!

NETWORK RAIL PLANS TO TRANSFORM CAMBERWELL ARCHES INTO CAFES

NETWORK RAIL PLANS TO TRANSFORM CAMBERWELL ARCHES INTO CAFES

Plans to transform industrialised railway arches into new spaces for cafes and bars have been drawn up by Network Rail.

A planning application submitted to Southwark Council last month shows the six archways could soon offer Camberwell a new hot spot for evening entertainment.

The six archways in 344-349 Camberwell Station Road “currently in a poor state of repair”, according to Network Rail. But each contain about 120 square metres, with a six smaller one providing 50 sq m of space.

Public consultation on the plans ends today (Thursday), and will soon be decided be either approved or sent back to redesigning by Southwark Council’s planning committee.

We need your input – Quietway 8 Kennington Park to Burgess Park

We need your input – Quietway 8 Kennington Park to Burgess Park

Quietway 8 Kennington Park to Burgess Park

https://consultations. southwark.gov.uk/environment- leisure/qw8

Overview

A new safe, quiet route between Kennington Park and Burgess Park is coming to make it easier and safer to get around on foot or by cycle. This route is for everyone – and is particularly good if you’re travelling with children or if you want a quiet route to get to the shops, school or work. With your input and support our engineers and safety specialists will be able to design this route to be quieter, away from heavy and fast moving traffic and polluted air. Help us get it right.

This new walking and cycling route was developed due to concerns about road safety and is designed to create a better link between Kennington Park and Burgess Park for cyclists and walkers. As most of the route is part of other schemes, right now we just need your local knowledge to make sure that the part of the route between Kennington Park and Addington Square – shown below – works for you and to know whether there is anything we have missed. We are trying to make as little disruption as possible focusing on clear signage, better surfacing, new paths for walking and cycling including some changes to parking spaces.

Why We Are Consulting

https://consultations. southwark.gov.uk/environment- leisure/qw8/

Quietways are a network of cycle routes in London that run through streets with low traffic volumes. Linking key destinations, the vast majority of Quietways follow back streets with some on paths across parks and open spaces. The routes are for new less-confident cyclists who want to avoid busy roads. Quietways form an integral part of the Council’s Cycling Strategy and the Mayor of London’s vision for cycling. We want to increase cycling and walking as a preferred way of getting around locally.
