Come along for an evening exploring the evolution of violin repertoire through time from J.S. Bach to Lili Boulanger!
Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas, composed in 1720, firmly established the technical capabilities of the violin as a solo instrument.
The beauty and depth of these pieces has stood the test of time and inspired generations of composers to push the instrument further both technically and musically. Join us as we track the evolution of the violin, performing the works of male and female composers of different nationalities, and exploring the increasing demands on the performer to expand the horizons of the audience. We’ll finish with a piece that is close to my heart and to that of my fellow Ukrainians, hoping that it will provide some comfort in these difficult times.
J.S.Bach – Violin Sonata No.1 in G minor BWV 1001
Henryk Wieniawski – Caprice No.5 op.10 “alla saltarella”
Sergei Prokofiev – Sonata for Solo Violin Op.115
Amy Beach – Romance
Lili Boulanger – Nocturne
Roman Lytwyniw- violin
Bram Mulders- piano
